On June 10, Mental Health America of Greater Houston hosted its Annual Meeting and Reception at the Lora Jean Kilroy Visitor and Education Center located on the historic River Oaks estate, Bayou Bend—the former home of our founder, Miss Ima Hogg.

We were pleased to have MHA of Dallas and MHA of Fort Bend County in attendance as well as Paul Gionfriddo, the national president of Mental Health America, who shared the vision and direction of our national organization, particularly the new B4Stage4 campaign. He also shared his personal story of mental health as a parent and his continued advocacy for his adult son, Tim and others living with mental illnesses. The event also hosted a book signing of "Losing Tim," a book authored by Gionfriddo.

Gionfriddo’s son Tim is one of the “6 percent”--an American with serious mental illness. He is also one of the half million homeless people with serious mental illnesses in desperate need of help yet underserved or ignored by our health and social-service systems.
