On Friday, August 14, 2015, the Veterans Mental Health Summit for the Southeast Texas Gulf Coast Region took place on the campus of the University of St. Thomas. It promoted awareness and use of VA mental health resources, helped Veterans gain access to local community services and resources, and encouraged strategies for building healthy communities for Veterans and their families. The summit also honored Veteran peer mentors who serve as volunteers or employees with veteran-serving organizations. The 2015 Veterans Mental Health Summit is a collaborative, community event between the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, Mental Health America of Greater Houston, City of Houston Office of Veterans Affairs, Gulf Coast Center, Grace after Fire, Lone Star Veterans Association, MHMRA of Harris County, Military Veteran Peer Network, Playsmint LLC, Tri‐County Behavioral Healthcare, United Way of Greater Houston, University of St. Thomas, and Via Hope.
