MHA Houston Leaders Attend Meadows Texas State of Mind Conference
In big news for the study and advocacy of mental health services in Texas, the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute launched the “Texas State of Mind” Conference on Wednesday, April 16th in Austin. The conference brought together mental health professionals, physicians, state officials and more to examine the mental health practices throughout the state. Among those speaking at the event included The Honorable Joe Straus, Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives; The Honorable Nathan Hecht, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Texas; and Dr. Kyle Janek, Executive Commissioner of Texas Health & Human Services Commission.
Mental Health America of Greater Houston President and CEO, Susan Fordice and its Director of Public Policy and Government Affairs, Bill Kelly attended the launch and heard panel discussions on veterans, children and criminal justice. With a mission “to identify and encourage the implementation of mental health policies and practices that enable Texans to get help when and where they need it,” MHAGH is thrilled to help Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute by showcasing programing such as the Veterans’ Behavioral Health Initiative (VBHI) and School Behavioral Health Initiatives (SBHI).
Working with advocates and researchers, the results of these programs can serve as models for state lawmakers in crafting policy and funding initiatives to meet the Institute’s vision “for all Texans to have access to the best integrated health care system in the country.” Mental Health America of Greater Houston looks forward to the opportunity to work with such incredible partners moving forward.
