Women's Mental Health Task Force

Mental Health America of Greater Houston’s established Women’s Mental Health Initiative invites you to attend the inaugural meeting of our Women’s Mental Health Task Force. The Task Force will focus on setting recommendations that will guide our work of identifying, educating about, and advocating for systems and services intended to address women’s mental health needs across the lifespan.

We need your input because the first task will be determining perinatal/maternal mental health recommendations. Think about community impact and upstream type of ideas that we can tackle. For example, the Harris Health Systems clinics in Houston are the medical homes of many women who seek primary care. What is a plan that the task force can develop to provide PPD education and awareness to the women who use these services?

The Task Force will work to answer questions like the following—What can be done in the greater Houston area to educate pregnant girls, women, and their families about antenatal, perinatal, and postpartum mental health disorders?  What can be done in the greater Houston area and across Texas that will keep maternal mental health at the forefront during future legislative sessions? We will discuss these questions and others during our first meeting. Please join us and bring your questions, ideas, and suggestions to share with the group.
