#HTxMentalHealth Children's Art Contest
Contest Begins March 1 - Contest Ends April 10, 2016
The #HTxMentalHealth Children's Art Contest, is a children's mental health awareness project established by Mental Health America of Greater Houston and Nick Finnegan Counseling Center. Now in its 2nd year, the contest is open to all children between the ages of 5-14 years old. This year’s theme, “How I Take Care of My Thoughts and Feelings,” gives children a way to express their understanding of mental health. The #HTxMentalHealth Children's Art Contest is held in observance of National Children's Mental Health Awareness Week (May 1-7) and Children's Mental Health Day (May 5). There is no cost to participate.
Winners from each age group will receive more than $300 in gift cards and prizes, recognition at an awards reception in their honor, and have their artwork featured in a gallery display. A digital gallery of the winning artwork and the artwork of all participants will be featured on the contest website, http://htxmentalhealth.weebly.com/.
Research shows that half of all lifetime cases of mental illness emerge before a child’s 14th birthday. We hope that, through the art contest and mental health information, this contest offers parents and those who care for children a chance to learn more about children’s mental health issues, and creates and opportunity for everyone to begin talking, learning and thinking about mental health.
