and the inaugural chair of the Yates Children Memorial Fund Advisory Committee

Appearing as an expert in the Andrea Yates case, Dr. Puryear is a nationally-recognized leader in the area of women's mental health and the inaugural chair of the Yates Children Memorial Fund Advisory Committee.
 
At this event, Dr. Puryear will discuss the progress and improved attention given to women's wellness and mental health over the last decade, milestones in women's mental health accomplished through Mental Health America of Greater Houston since the inception of the Women's Mental Health Initiative, and how her current work at The Women's Place impacts the wellness of women through every stage of their life.
 
Dr. Puryear has been recognized by Texas Monthly as a "Super Doc" and by H Texas Magazine as one of the "Best Doctors in Houston" and "Best Doctors for Women", as well as being named to "Best Doctors in America." She is a member of North American Society of Psychosocial Obstetrics and Gynecology, American Psychiatric Association and American Psychoanalytic Association.

Emmy Award Winning Bilingual Journalist
 
Gras is best known for the award-winning show Living Smart with Patricia Gras which has aired on over 200 PBS channels across the country and still airs on HoustonPBS. While she is no longer at Houston PBS, Gras now owns Gras Productions LLC, a company which produces TV programs, marketing, industrial and commercial videos. Gras speaks five languages, has visited over 50 countries, and holds three Masters degrees including a Masters in journalism from Columbia University in New York. She has won over 170 broadcasting awards including 7 Television Emmys, 20 Emmy nominations, 16 national Tellys and several international film festival and news awards.
 
In a story on postpartum depression, Gras speaks with Laurel Spence, a health professional, a mental health advocate and a mother who experienced postpartum depression after the birth of her child.  Spence received treatment for the illness and shares her journey back to wellness with Gras.
