Center for School Behavioral Health Advocacy Task Force Legislative Update - 5.18.17

May 18, 2017

This morning, the Senate Education Committee heard testimony for House Bill 2623 (Allen, Alma | Thompson, Senfronia) and House Bill 3887 (Coleman). Strong testimony was given but concerns from a small group of committee members - members known for blocking legislation - are putting the fate of both bills in jeopardy.

Time and time again, this has been described as the most difficult legislative session in recent history in which to get legislation passed. We cannot do it alone.

Which is why we are asking for your help one last time.

PLEASE, call State Senator Paul Bettencourt of Houston today and let him know that you support these bills and the good they will accomplish for the children of Texas.

Here is a sample script to use for your calls to State Senator Paul Bettencourt:

Hello, my name is ________. I am calling Senator Bettencourt because I want to make sure they support HB 2623 (Allen | Thompson, Senfronia) and HB 3887 (Coleman). Both bills had hearings in the EDUCATION COMMITTEE this morning, Thursday, May 18. I support these bills and the positive impact they will have on mental health in education in the state of Texas and encourage Senator Bettencourt to do so as well. Thank you very much!
