2017-18 Betsy Schwartz Fellow

Maritza Arrieta has been selected as the recipient of the 2017-2018 Betsy Schwartz Fellowship. Arrieta, an undergraduate social work student at the University of Houston Downtown, will work with Mental Health America of Greater Houston's Education and Training department in the area of women’s mental health. She will focus on perinatal mental health issues and health concerns such as postpartum depression. Arrieta plans to graduate Spring 2018 and will proudly represent her family as its first college graduate.

The Betsy Schwartz Fellowship provides students with a stipend and a strong internship experience. Immersing them in the field of mental health will set the stage for the development of leaders who will continue to work for access to quality care and mental health for all. All interns carry forward a legacy of leadership, advocacy and positive change throughout our community. The fellowship, established through a generous lead gift from longtime supporters Joan and Stanford Alexander, is a tribute to former president and CEO Betsy Schwartz.
